vitamin c

I have read so much about the benefits of taking Vitamin C orally. Now I am reading that there may be benefits in applying vitamin C topically. Is this true?

This one little nutrient is causing so much commotion within the world of health and skin care. For years we have known the benefits of Vitamin C when taken internally. It helps treat and prevent colds and flu, but more importantly it forms and maintains collagen which is the basis of all connective tissue such as skin, ligaments, cartilage, vertebral discs, joint linings, capillary walls, bones and teeth.

Whilst it can not claim to be the fountain of youth, Vitamin C does have its place in skin care. Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to protect us against free radicals. Free radicals are extremely unstable compounds that attack the bodies cells, including skin cells. Research is now showing that free radicals may be one of the main causes of wrinkles and premature aging in the skin. Appling Vitamin C and the other powerful antioxidants such as  Vitamin A, E and Green tea topically may act as an invisible shield against the destructive free radicals.

Always apply Vitamin C products underneath your daily sunscreen as this will offer advanced protection from UV rays and free radicals. If you decide to use these products, I recommend the BIODROGA ACNO LIFT and BIODROGA REPAIR + CELL PROTECT SPF 15

home made ….

Natural Body Scrubs

Indulging in spa treatments at home can be lots of fun – especially when you share the experience with someone who can get to all those hard to reach places.

For a scrumptious homemade body scrub try combining the following ingredients:

•    Six tablespoons of ground oats

•    Six teaspoons of brown sugar

•    Six tablespoons of Aloe vera gel

•    Six tablespoons of olive oil

First, have a warm shower so that your skin is softened; then turn the shower off and apply the paste all over your body, massaging it in gently and paying special attention to areas such as your elbows and knees.

Remember your skin should tingle but not sting, so go easy. When you have smoothed your whole body, rinse with warm water and then smother yourself in your favourite body moisturizer.

Gimmick or genius?

When I first reviewed the Shick HYDRO 5 last year I was very impressed and welcomed it into the razor market. Here is my original review from DNA #134 comparing it to its biggest competitor the Gillette FUSION.

The HYDRO 5 undeniably gives a smoother shave for longer because of the lubricating reservoir, but the FUSION’s sleeker design makes it is easier to navigate the facial contours. Even with its competitive feature – the lubricating reservoir, this razor won’t bring down the Gillette FUSION family (11 of them at last count) as the number one men’s razor, but the HYDRO 5 is comparable in design and effect and is cheaper by a few dollars than the FUSION, which is definitely going to help its sales. This welcome competition in 5-blade razors can only mean exciting things for men’s shaving!

Well, get ready men, now Schick have come out with a “world first” and superseded the original with a 3 speed  ”HYDRO 5 POWER SELECT”. Am I blown away? Sorry, but no!! I am not a fan of vibrating razors; it may work for other men but personally I don’t appear to get a better shave, so seriously I think why bother? Vibrations have been done before – I definetely believe it is time for a new gimmick.

To test the new razor I shaved the very sensitive neck area under my beard that I usually just clip back. One side with the vibrating feature (on all 3 speeds), the other side no vibrating. There was absolutely no difference between the result on each side. The design of the Schick razor itself gave me a close shave and I had NO shaving rash, even after having to cut through 10 days of growth – VERY IMPRESSIVE.

I love the ordinal HYDRO 5 and will now use the HYDRO 5 POWER SELECT, but probably won’t bother turning on the vibrating feature.

Game on Gillette, Schick and KING OF SHAVES…. it’s time for something new – impress me!

4.5/5  STARS for the razor

2/5  STARS for the new 3 speed vibrating  feature

Peta.. and Will, gets a facelift

It was time for a makeover…

Peta has kept saying to me for months, “Honey, I think I need a facelift”? So, being the good business partner that I am I did as I was told and worked with our design guy Timothy Ghent to create a new web page and facelift for WILL AND PETA Skin Clinic. When I showed her the new site last night her face said it all (actually, thanks to Mrs. Botox it’s the same face as she always has, but after 18 years working together I can read her even with a blank expression) – I don’t think this is quite what she meant.

The old WILL AND PETA website was very beautiful, but not nearly as functional as the new one and I think it now looks AMAZING. It is very easy to see the treatments we do (Spa Facials, Micro-hydrabrasion, Waxing, Massage, Chemical Peels), find out more information about each of the tools we use in the treatments, but most importantly it is now super easy to book an appointment with Jonathan, Peta or myself online. I was working alone yesterday and unable to answer the phone, I came down from doing a facial treatment at around lunchtime to see the rest of my day had filled up with clients making their own appointments – Gosh, I love technology!

I want to say a huge thank you to the very talented Timothy Ghent for being so patient with my constant changes – the boys needs a medal. Anyone who knows me can appreciate I am a Capricorn through and through, but after nearly 8 years working together he knows how to handle me. Timothy has been responsible for all of my media on www.willfennell.com.au and the design and concept of WILL AND PETA from the very beginning, check out his very cool website.

Have a look at the new site and book in for a POWER PEPTIDE FACIAL which is this months special @ only $99. I am now off to beautify our peeps… and make money for Peta’s real facelift… I am going to be in sooo much trouble for this update  :)
